Helping Wollega IDPs

13,000 internally displaced persons; mothers, fathers, children and elderly members of the Amhara community who’ve escaped ethnically targeted massacres in Wollega are currently sheltering in Debre Birhan and surrounding areas.

These idp’s are survivors of the all too frequent and brutal massacres in Wollega, they were once agriculturalists, farming and feeding the nation as a whole, but were forced to escape their homes with only their lives and the clothes on their backs. 

The idp’s in Debre Birhan are frequently deprived of adequate shelter, food and health services by the regional and federal administration and live in precarious conditions. They are additionally abandoned by the humanitarian agencies who’ve not prioritized survivors of various massacres from Wollega.  

Therefore it’s incumbent upon our diaspora community to do everything at our disposal from advocacy to providing basic humanitarian assistance.
