Library for Meseret Elementary and Middle School

Dear Colleagues,

This year, I am partnering with a wonderful non-profit organization, Wonfel (www.wonfel.org), to build a library for my alma mater Meseret primary and middle school in Gondar city, Ethiopia. 

Founded in 1951, Meseret elementary and middle school, is a public-school accredited by the Ethiopian Ministry of Education. For the 2022 school year (2015 Ethiopian calendar) a total of 2274 students (1167 girls, 1107 boys) were enrolled in grade 1 to 8. The school administration shared with us their top three funding priorities for the year and a fully furnished library was one of their wishes. I believe libraries provide the space, resources, and the opportunity to instill a love of reading, science and math. We need $40,000 USD to build and furnish the library and an additional $5000 to convert an existing building to a classroom. We have secured $25,000. 

I kindly invite you to join the initiative and help us fundraise $20,000. All the fund raised ($45,000) will go towards the construction of the library, furniture (shelves, tables, chairs), books, teaching aids, and the renovation of a classroom. Donations can be given through mightycause or directly to Wonfel (checks, wire transfers, or stock). Wonfel is a nonprofit registered in California with 501(C)(3) status, it is matching gift eligible by several companies, and donations to it are tax deductible.

Throughout the project period, we will send regular updates, photographs and videos on progress, and a photo/video of the final library and an expense report. Our hope is to complete the project by fall 2023.
