Wemayi Farm is a 4-hectare regenerative organic farm and eco-village in Ethiopia designed to do exactly that. By combining sustainable agrulture, renewable energy, and community training, this initiative is creating a pathway toward long-term self-determination and shared prosperity.

Why Wemayi Farm Matters

Across Ethiopia and much of the world, farming communities face growing challenges from soil degradation, climate uncertainty, and limited economic opportunity. Yet within these same communities lies deep knowledge, generations of land stewardship, and a strong desire to shape their own futures.

Wemayi Farm builds on that strength.

By combining traditional farming wisdom with regenerative practices, the farm restores ecological balance while creating new pathways for productivity and income. In doing so, it offers a living model of what sustainable rural development can look like.

A Vision Rooted in Purpose

Wemayi Farm is led by Serkaddis Alemu, whose journey reflects dedication, resilience, and a belief that sustainable development must be locally rooted and community-driven.

Born in Ethiopia and later living in California, she witnessed two worlds, one deeply connected to land and one shaped by rapid modernization. She’s returning to Ethiopia after years abroad with a clear mission: to cultivate land in a way that honors both people and the environment.

Today, Wemayi Farm stands as the result of that commitment, a woman-led initiative grounded in integrity, self-determination, regeneration, and hope.

How Your Support Will Be Used

Wemayi Farm is a long-term vision that will be developed over several phases over the coming years. While the complete project includes a broader multi-phase plan, our immediate fundraising goal is $250,000 to launch three of the most essential building blocks of the farm.

These first investments create the foundation that allows everything else to grow.

1. Water Resilience System

Estimated Cost: $66,100–$121,000

Reliable water is the foundation of regenerative agriculture.

Funding will support:

• Large-scale water storage
• Installation of a deep open-well pumping system
• Water distribution infrastructure
• Installation and civil works

2. Orchard Development

Estimated Cost: $38,000–$58,000

The orchard represents one of the farm's longest-term investments. Support will help fund:

• Organic certified fruit spalings
• International transportation and import compliance
• Soil preparation and compost sysems
• Irrigation expansion
• Labor and maintenance during the orchard's establishment

Healthy orchards take years to mature, making early investment essential for future food production, biodiversity, and farm income.

3. G+1 Staff House & Animal Facilities

Estimated Cost: $68,000

The first permanent building on the farm will provide housing for staff while supporting daily farm operations. Alongside it, the initial animal facilities will establish integrated livestock systems that contribute manure for compost, improve soil fertility, and strengthen long-term farm resilience.

Together, these systems will ensure the farm can withstand seasonal variability while providing dependable irrigation for crops and orchards.

Building Toward a Larger Vision

These three priorities represent the first steps in a broader long-term plan to develop Wemayi Farm into a regenerative farm, training center, and community resource.

Future phases will expand production, renewable energy systems, processing facilities, educational programs, agroforestry, eco-tourism, and community infrastructure.
